World’s Largest Solar Plant Featuring over 5 Million Panels Goes Online in China – Startup Pakistan

A subsidiary of the China Green Development Investment Group has launched what is being called the “world’s largest” solar power plant. This massive 3.5-gigawatt project is located in Xinjiang and is known as the Xinjiang Midong solar project. It features over 5.26 million solar panels spread across a vast area of 32,947 acres.

This enormous solar farm began operations on June 3 and generates about 6.09 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year. To put this in perspective, this amount of electricity could power the entire country of Papua New Guinea for a year.

The project was developed by a state-owned company that has projects in 12 different provinces across China. This company follows a guiding philosophy that focuses on being people-oriented, treating ecology as a fundamental principle, and considering culture as the soul of their initiatives.

Building the Xinjiang Midong solar project required a significant investment of 15.45 billion yuan, which is approximately $2.13 billion. This investment underscores the scale and ambition of the project, aiming to contribute significantly to renewable energy production and ecological sustainability in China.
