PTA Responds to Internet Disruption Issue in Pakistan – Startup Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) recently addressed concerns about slow internet services across the country. During a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology, chaired by Palwasha Khan, Senators Afnanullah and Humayun raised concerns about the impact of poor internet speeds on e-commerce platforms, which are considering leaving Pakistan due to the issue.

The Senators highlighted specific problems, such as difficulties uploading and downloading media on WhatsApp, which is a widely used messaging platform. In response, the IT Secretary explained that the issue lies with cellular networks, rather than WiFi connectivity. However, officials from the PTA claimed that they had not received any prior complaints about slow internet services, which raised questions about the effectiveness of their complaint-handling mechanisms. The meeting highlighted the need for urgent action to address the slow internet speeds, which are hindering the growth of e-commerce and other online services in Pakistan.

The slow internet speeds are not only affecting businesses but also causing frustration among individuals who rely on the internet for communication, education, and entertainment. The PTA and other relevant authorities must work together to resolve this issue and ensure that Pakistan’s internet infrastructure meets the needs of its citizens and businesses.
