Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has acknowledged that the federal budget for 2024-25 was prepared according to the directives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) due to Pakistan’s difficult economic situation.
Speaking in the National Assembly, he explained the various efforts being made to reduce government spending and combat corruption. One significant step is the abolishment of the Public Works Department, which had been plagued by corruption issues.
To improve government efficiency, a rightsizing committee has been established to streamline operations. The new budget includes increased funding for southern Punjab and various programs aimed at empowering youth and women.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also pointed out substantial federal investments in infrastructure projects across the country. These projects are expected to boost economic growth and development.
Additionally, the budget process was discussed, highlighting the Senate’s advisory role. There were calls for better facilities for overseas Pakistanis and suggestions for tax exemptions to support different sectors of the economy.
