The family of former US Attorney Jessica Aber has confirmed that the 43-year-old died of what is likely an epileptic seizure.

Aber, who was found dead at her home in Alexandria, Virginia, on March 22, suffered from epilepsy for many years.

Authorities initially classified her death as “natural causes” after an investigation by the Alexandria Police Department.

Aber, a seasoned federal prosecutor, was appointed as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia in 2021 after being nominated by President Joe Biden.

She gained recognition for her leadership in several high-profile cases, including war crime prosecutions and convictions related to MS-13.

In a statement, current US Attorney Erik S. Siebert described Aber as an “unmatched” leader whose legacy will continue to influence the district.

Despite her passing, Siebert emphasised that Aber’s professionalism, grace, and legal acumen set the standard for prosecutors in the region.

Aber’s career spanned several key roles, including assistant US attorney, deputy chief of the criminal division, and leader of the district’s efforts in tackling corporate espionage, money laundering, and war crimes.

As the investigation into her death continues, the family has requested privacy during this time of mourning.
