Dettol Soap Manufacturer Fined Rs 15 Million by Competition Commission of Pakistan for Deceptive Marketing – Startup Pakistan

The Competition Commission of Pakistan has fined Reckitt Benckiser Pakistan, the company that makes Dettol soap, Rs 15 million for misleading advertising claims. This action came after a complaint from Unilever Pakistan, which stated that RB falsely claimed Dettol Soap kills up to 99.9% of germs and provides 24-hour protection.

Initially, the CCP had imposed a Rs 30 million fine, but the Competition Appellate Tribunal upheld the CCP’s findings and reduced the penalty to Rs 15 million. This decision underscores the need for honest advertising in Pakistan’s competitive market.

The ruling is a reminder to all companies that they must ensure their marketing claims are accurate and not misleading. The CCP’s decision aims to protect consumers and maintain fair competition in the market. This case highlights the importance of regulatory bodies in overseeing and enforcing truthful marketing practices.

The penalty against RB Pakistan serves as a significant example for other businesses to follow ethical advertising standards. As competition in the market continues to grow, the CCP’s actions reinforce the necessity for companies to prioritize transparency and honesty in their marketing efforts.
