Breaking | China’s Xi meets international business reps as Beijing turns on the charm
President Xi Jinping met representatives from international business communities on Friday in Beijing, the state-owned Xinhua reported.
China has been turning on the charm with multinationals to bring more operations – and money – back to China.
This week, 80 multinational company executives – including from Apple, Mastercard and Pfizer – attended the China Development Forum, an annual event hosted by the Chinese government to facilitate dialogue with global investors.
There, they heard a call from Premier Li Qiang to work together and resist US protectionism and ensure globalisation thrives.
One or two days later, many of the participants hopped onto flights to the southern island of Hainan for the Boao Forum for Asia, where they spoke during panel discussions about their optimism for China’s rising role in the global stage, along with disappointment over the US retreat.
