Ruud van Nistelrooy is on the brink of being sacked by Leicester City following a series of disastrous results, with the club’s management already assessing replacements.
The former Manchester United striker’s tenure has been marred by eight consecutive defeats, with Leicester now 15 points adrift of safety. Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown has revealed that Ruud van Nistelrooy is likely to be dismissed from his role as Leicester City manager at the end of the season.
According to Brown, Leicester’s poor form under Van Nistelrooy, including a run of eight straight defeats with no goals scored at home, has left the club with no choice but to part ways with the 48-year-old.
Van Nistelrooy’s appointment in November 2024 has failed to yield the expected turnaround. In 19 matches under his leadership, Leicester have won just three times, drawing twice and losing 14.
The Foxes have scored only 13 goals and conceded 41, making their chances of survival in the Premier League increasingly slim.
Brown, who has extensive experience in the football industry and was instrumental in signing Van Nistelrooy for Manchester United, told Football Insider that the Dutch manager is facing mounting pressure.
“Given the disastrous form they’ve been in, I expect he will be sacked,” Brown said. “It will probably happen at the end of the season, but Leicester will already be looking for replacements in the meantime.”
While Van Nistelrooy will likely shoulder the blame for Leicester’s struggles, Brown emphasized that the club’s issues run deeper than the manager. “There are a lot of players who simply aren’t up to Premier League level,” he added.
“The recruitment department needs a major overhaul. Ruud will take the blame, but the problems extend well beyond him.”
Leicester’s on-field woes are compounded by off-field concerns, with the club facing potential sanctions for breaching financial rules. Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson revealed that Leicester are £100 million over their spending limit, prompting further uncertainty surrounding the club’s future.
The combination of managerial instability and financial challenges has created a precarious situation for Leicester City, who must make significant changes to avoid relegation. The club’s immediate priority is to find a suitable replacement for Van Nistelrooy, with the end of the season fast approaching.
As the Foxes’ Premier League survival hangs in the balance, attention will soon shift to whether Van Nistelrooy’s successor can steer the club away from the drop zone or if more structural changes are needed at the King Power Stadium.
