World’s Largest Plexiglass Spherical Structure Probing the Universe’s Origins – Startup Pakistan

Exciting news from Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory! Located 700 meters underground, its core structure, the world’s largest plexiglass spherical structure, is now successfully assembled. The stainless steel grid and photomultiplier tubes are also being installed and are expected to be completed by the end of November.

Why This Matters: This experiment aims to measure the mass order of neutrinos and conduct other cutting-edge research. Neutrinos, the oldest and most primordial particles from the dawn of the universe, carry vital information that can deepen our understanding of the cosmos and the material world.

Tech Marvel: The sphere is made from 263 curved acrylic panels, weighs 600 tons, and is as thin as an eggshell relative to its 35.4-meter diameter. It will hold 20,000 tons of liquid scintillator in a pool of pure water, withstanding 3,000 tons of buoyant force.
